Pete’s Posts

From time to time, I post articles and essays I think will be most interesting to clients here. For all my posts, check out my Medium page.

  • Nearly 700 organizations around the country have joined in opposition to this bill, because of its promotion of more fossil fuels, its crippling of the public’s right to push back against polluting projects in their communities, and its promotion of natural gas exports.

Read more about why so many groups are against the bill.

  • I recently observed that the permitting reform bill introduced by Senators Joe Manchin and John Barrasso advance a lot of Project 2025’s agenda for promoting fossil fuels.

In some cases the bill uses similar mechanisms and policies as those recommended by Project 2025, in other cases the bill advances the same goal but with different tools (after all, Project 2025 is mostly recommendations for the executive branch, while the bill is … legislation.)

    Here’s what I found (link).

  • Senators Joe Manchin (I-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY) have come up with a permitting reform bill that fulfills so many of Project 2025’s goals for expanding the production, use and export of fossil-fuels, we may as well just call it the Project 2025 Pollution Promotion Bill. Sure, there are some provisions to boost electric transmission capacity, which is important to the renewable energy transition. But overall, the bill is a feast for the fossil-fuel industry and the clean energy crumbs just aren’t worth it. Democrats should be fighting Project 2025, not helping it along.

  • I’ve written about Project 2025’s plans to gut the Inflation Reduction Act, walk away from international climate agreements and solutions, reverse progress on clean transportation and rollback appliance and building efficiency standards.

But the groups behind Project 2025 have a lot more in mind, including a set of steps which will increase air pollution-related illnesses and deaths for a long time to come.

  • The Heritage Foundation’s Project [to Destroy America’s Government in] 2025 represents a far greater threat to the health and welfare of the American people than its previous transition plans. The New York Times called it “a $22 million presidential transition operation at a scale never attempted before in conservative politics.”

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts described Project 2025 as a way to ensure the next conservative president would be “ready to govern in the most aggressive, ambitious, audacious way to destroy the Deep State and devolve power back to the individual Americans.”

If your family, organization or business is affected in any way by any service the federal government provides, you should be concerned about what conservatives have in store.

  • I recently wrote about Project 2025’s plans to gut the Inflation Reduction Act, turn the civil service into the servile service, and undermine U.S. climate work internationally. But the conservative groups behind the presidential transition guide also have plans for putting the pollution back into transportation, appliances, and government buildings.

    Here’s what I found.

  • The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is the United States’ most important tool for preserving a livable climate. That significance has made it a target of over 50 influential conservative organizations, who have drawn up detailed plans for the next President to derail the IRA as quickly and thoroughly as possible. These plans are laid out in Project 2025’s “Mandate for Leadership”, a policy playbook produced by the Heritage Foundation and over 50 conservative organizations.
